National Arabic LLM " Karnak"
PROBLEM
Relying on global, open-access AI models presents significant risks to national digital sovereignty and data security. Global AI systems inherently struggle to authentically understand the specific linguistic complexities and local cultural context of Egyptian Colloquial Arabic. Furthermore, depending on external AI infrastructures exposes sensitive sectors to the risks of data leakage, foreign supply chain issues, and international service outages, creating a critical need for a secure, local digital foundation that can safely support a nation's digital ecosystem.
APPROACH
To establish this secure digital fortress, "Karnak" was developed as a sovereign, locally grounded family of Large Language Models (hosted on Hugging Face). "Karnak" was trained using meticulously curated, cleansed, and locally sourced Arabic datasets to achieve unparalleled linguistic accuracy. Specifically engineered with architectural depth extensions and an optimized tokenizer to master the nuances and dialects of Egyptian Colloquial Arabic alongside the local cultural context, "Karnak" functions as the core digital infrastructure for Egypt's AI ecosystem. This rigorous localized approach has allowed "Karnak" to outperform global counterparts, becoming the highest-ranking Arabic LLM in its 40B parameter class.
